HOW TO APPLY

Eligibility: Jazz musicians aged 18-26, playing instruments such as saxophone, trumpet, piano, drums, and more. Improvisers on any instrument are welcome!
Submission Deadline: Applications close on March 9, 2025, 23:59 CET.
Results: March 21st 2025.
Application Requirements:
Your CV outlining musical education and experience.
Links to two performance videos showcasing your theme and improvisation skills.
A recommendation letter from a music teacher or professional.
A statement confirming your travel costs to/from Groznjan are covered.
A copy of your passport.

PRACTICAL DETAILS
Session Dates and Tour: July 22nd 2025 - August 8th 2025.
Workshops: Train and perform under the guidance of internationally acclaimed mentors and composers: Luis Bonilla, Artistic Director and Trombone, Alex Sipiagin, Trumpet, Boris Kozlov, Bass, John Riley, Drumms, Hector Martignon, Piano, Michael Philip Mossman, Jazz theory, composing & arranging, Ivan Renta, Saxophone and Alex Godman, Guitar. All applicants for the 2025 JM Jazz World Orchestra are offered a 20% reduction on the participation fee for the JM International Summer Music Camp in Groznjan, Croatia as a part of JM Jazz World Program from July 21st-31st. Selected JMJWO members participate in workshops for free.
Location: Groznjan, Croatia (rehearsals), followed by a European concert tour including More than Jazz Festival Udine, Dubrovnik Summer Festival, Young Euro Classic Berlin.
Costs: Travel expenses to/from Groznjan must be covered by participants, though financial support may be available from local JM member organizations.
Languages: Workshops are conducted in English (and Spanish is always welcome!).

INTRODUCING OUR ARTISTIC DIRECTOR

We are delighted to announce the return of trombonist, composer/arranger, and educator Luis Bonilla as Artistic Director of the 2024 edition. Luis Bonilla, a US-Costa Rican talent, has an impressive track record as a sideman with legends like McCoy Tyner, Dizzy Gillespie, Lester Bowie, Tom Harrell, Freddie Hubbard, Astrud Gilberto, Willie Colon, and Toshiko Akiyoshi. His versatility and dedication have made him a sought-after musician in the international pop scene, performing with artists like Tony Bennett, Alejandro Sanz, Diana Ross, Marc Anthony, La India, Mary J. Blige, and Phil Collins. Bonilla has also imparted his knowledge at prestigious US and European music institutions, making him a respected figure in music education. Since 2013, he has served as the musical director for the JM Jazz World International Youth Jazz Orchestra, venturing on tours across Europe. Bonilla has been a guest artist and educator at numerous colleges and music schools in the US and abroad, including the University of Memphis, the University of Northern Iowa, Riverside City College, the University of Wellington (NZ), and many more. Presently, he teaches at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Graz, Austria.
GROZNJAN IS CALLING!

The 2024 session is scheduled for July starting with a rehearsal session in the enchanting Istrian village of Groznjan, Croatia, which offers the ideal ambience for rehearsals, relaxation, and immersing oneself in the musical history of the village's ancient stones. The JM Jazz World session commences with a week of rehearsals, followed by a 5-7 day international concert and festival tour spanning Croatia, Montenegro, Slovenia, and Italy. The exact dates for 2024 will be communicated later.
